Government Health Agencies’ Webinar Series Focused on Alzheimer’s

A collaboration between the Administration for Community Living (ACL), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the National Institute on Aging (NIA) at the National Institutes of Health have resulted in a series of webinars about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. The goal of these free sessions, geared for professionals in the public health and aging services sectors, is to inform, educate, and empower community members, people with dementia, and their family caregivers.

The next webinar, Community Collaborations for Assisting People with Alzheimer’s and Dementias: The Steps to Success, will be held on August 28 from 1:30-3 p.m. Presenters will include Olivia Mastry, JD, MPH, Executive Lead, ACT on Alzheimer’s; Raj Shah, MD, Associate Professor, Family Medicine and Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center, Rush University Medical Center; and Adam Frank, BA, Grant Coordinator, Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs, who will discuss their insight on each of their collaborative successes around dementia and Alzheimer’s research.

On September 25, the webinar topic, Alzheimer’s Research Updates, will provide updates on existing Alzheimer’s and related dementias research studies, as well as information on new directions. Among discussion points: Research participation insights; metabolic aspects of Alzheimer’s, including roles of insulin and exercise; findings on non-pharmacologic approaches to dementia care; and Recruiting Older Adults into Research (ROAR), a collaboration among ACL, CDC, NIA to inform older adults of research participation opportunities. Representives from the University of Southern California, Wake Forest School of Medicine, the Center for Innovative Care in Aging, and Berman Center for Clinical Research will lead the panel.
